1. Improve sediment oxygen conditions

  * Fine bubbles increase oxygen transfer and can improve DO near the pond bottom.
  * Better-oxygenated sediment can accelerate aerobic decomposition of accumulated organic matter.
  * This may reduce the highly reduced, black, anaerobic sediment conditions that often accompany excessive organic accumulation.

2. Reduce organic sludge that supports benthic organisms

  * Continuous fine-bubble circulation can keep fine organic particles from remaining concentrated in stagnant bottom zones.
  * When combined with good solids removal, this can reduce the organic substrate available to benthic organisms.

3. Improve pond circulation

  * Fine bubbles create an upward water movement ("airlift" effect).
  * This can help break up dead zones, particularly around feeding areas and pond corners.
  * Better circulation also distributes oxygen more uniformly through the water column.
